Cell fractionation

Cell fractionation is a broad set of techniques that aim to either separate the cells of different species of bacteria (isolation of a strain of bacteria from a mixed culture without need for cultivation), or to isolate specific 'organelles' (such as the anammoxosomes of anammox bacteria, or the nuclear bodies of Gemmata obscuriglobus) from bacteria. These methods are currently being developed or optimized and are the experimental basis for the field of 'prokaryotic cell biology'. In this field we cooperate closely with the University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia.
