Continuous cultivation

Continuous culture cultivation is a prerequisite for the physiological study of microorganisms, for functional genomics and proteomics. Our facilities consist of:

  1. 1 CSTR 300 l
  2. 2 CSTR 15 l
  3. 3 CSTR 10 l
  4. 3 CSTR 5 l
  5. 6 CSTR 2 l
  6. 6 CSTR 500 ml
  7. 2 CSTR 100 ml
  8. 1 gas-lift reactor 15 l
  9. 2 trickling filters 60 l
  10. 2 trickling filters 8 l
  11. 1 trickling filter 500 ml

Where CSTR means "continuously stirred tank reactor" or chemstat. Most systems are equiped with standard process control utilities (pH, oxygen, redox temperature control). Additionally we are able to measure online and even control the hydrogen, NO, N2O, NO2, methane and CO2 concentrations. Compilation of mass balances and isotope ratio mass spectrometry are also possible. The equipment is especially designed to work comfortably with a range of very slowly growing bacteria.
