Almost all research projects depend on molelcular genetic techniques in one way or another. DNA/RNA extraction, (rt-)PCR, cloning, sequencing, gene walking, Northern and Southern blotting, restriction analysis, DGGE community fingerprinting, construction of phylogenetic trees. The power of these techniques is boosted by the availability of RNA expression arrays, 2D gel electrophoresis and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.
